PRRT105 HRD Report Trek With Children of Alegaonkar school

It was decided by our Table to be involved in the Trek organized by Lt Flt Cdt Parag Chandrakant Limaye Memorial Trust to Shri Neelkantheshwar. This trek was originally to be held in Oct but that was postponed due to commonwealth youth games. Finally 13of December was the agreed date and it was decided to organize this for 55 children class VI of Shri Alegaonkar school khadki. Late Flt Cdt Parag Chandrakant Limaye Memorial Trust was formed in memory of Lt flt cdt Parag Limaye who laid down his life during his pilot training at Allahabad in 1995. Lt parag was my school mate. A very disciplined person and had an ambition to be a fighter pilot since class VI. He made it to NDA, Allahabad and just days before the graduation laid down his life owing to technical snag in MIG plane. Such is destiny. Thus in his memory trust was formed of which I am a trustee and we do such events once a year in October (his birthday as well as memory day). Principal cause of this trust is to encourage defense entrance along with adventure training and other civic causes. Thus this year we organized one day camp for children of Aleganokar School and its staff. This school has mostly children associated with platforms and slums around khadki. th On a cool and pleasant morning of 13December, I along with my fellow trustees and daughter assembled at Cipla at 7 Am. Our table had organized snacks through contribution from another Parag: Our tabler. The Bus arrived at 7 30 and soon we started the journey. I was in my car with my daughter and fellow trustee. The morning was gorgeous and the snap of khadakwasla dam can say better than my words. The road and lakeside reminded me of those lochs in Scotland. We reached the base at around 9 :30 and by this time sun was out. I had to drive much ahead on the trek road as I had to reach the car park below. It saved me a 10-15 mins walks thankfully. The kids got down at the base and started walking. When they arrived they were full of energy. We then served them snacks, had prayers and then started the climb. Sun was now out and even in Dec it was warm. The climb though a broad road had a gradient with stairs in between. The teachers of school, who were not used, naturally lagged the main group. The volunteers from Pune Mountaineers naturally led the way and enforced discipline which is very crucial to avoid any mishaps. But these volunteers were experienced and knew the task. We reached top at around 11:15. Teachers reached by 11:40. Then we assembled the kids below tree. I introduced them to trust, Parag, round table, and trekking habits. Kids were then refreshed. On the top, there are many idols depicting various mythological and historical events. Name a god, event, saint of significance, you have the idol. These are beautifully done and neatly placed. They are painted after heavy rains each year, and is a really enjoyable journey. My daughter who is in Ist std, really enjoyed them. So did the kids. Teachers at school explained them all events. Then we went inside temple of Shri Neelkantheshwar and had 10 mins prayers. It’s a very good temple. After that we assembled for lunch and let kids on their own for 30 mins. They enjoyed.
Then again we assembled them and then Pune Mountaineers people conducted some outdoor games like passing parcel, some recitation etc. some children sang good songs and then we had some prizes as well. We started back by 2 and came down by 3. Journey down was bit comfortable bit for sun beaming down. Children went inside bus by around 3:30 and reached pune by 4;30. We got a call from their principal about how children enjoyed this being such first experience of their lives and how much they learnt about trek, involved discipline, about defense entrance and so on.. IT was really a wonderful experience on a glorious December day. I am sure we must have created at least handful of trekking enthusiast and helped them get new experience amidst all their hardships.

Phrt182 -Las Vegas Nite Diwali Social

Las Vegas Nite Diwali Bash Hosted by Tr, Vikas Agarwal and Tr. Amit Bora, Phrt182 at 9.00 p.m. on 24th Oct , 2008 at Jahaan Bungalow , Mundhwa , Pune Dress Code Traditional Attended by 17 of 19 tablers and 20+ tabling couples from other Pune tables After receiving the invite , there was a lot of excitement and anticipation amongst all thetablers for this fellowship event . The invite was in a form of a boarding pass for a flightto Vegas and this itself was so unique and innovative that even those who wereplanning to be out of town were rearranging their schedules to attend the event . Inspiteof the heightened expectations , the party itself was so much beyond anything whatanyone could have imagined , most of Pune's tablers who were invited were talkingabout the event till much after . Our Chairman, Tr. Vikas Agarwal and co host Tr. AmitBora had chosen the venue with much care which was a beautiful private bungalowahead of Koregaon park , guaranteeing complete privacy , ensuring the party would onwell beyond the deadline of 11.30 p.m. The hosts had promised the party would go ontill 3.00 a.m. but very few would have expected that the party continued till 7.30 in themorning with morning tea being served before the last of the partygoers dispersed . After following the directions on the invite me and my wife Monica reached thebungalow and our car was promptly attended to by the valets as special valet parkingwas arranged for the convenience of all the guests . At the entrance of the venue abeautiful rangoli greeted us and diyas showing the way inside . Once inside we wereamazed to see the décor with different coloured halogens lighting the foliage around thegarden , giant cutouts of playing cards mounted around , fully stocked bar at one endand casino in an enclosed room on the other end . After exchanging greetings weimmediately made our way to the bar and got us some drinks . The flair bartenders were concocting some lovely cocktails and we got some watermelon martinis for theladies and flavored caprioshkas for ourselves .True to the promise made by the Tr.Vikas, in true Vegas style, there were some British and Spanish ladies moving around
as hostesses ensuring everyone had enough to drink and eat . He was seen movingaround forcing tequila shots on everyone followed by the lovely ladies garlanding theguests with beads .Tr. Amit Patodia , Tr. Lokesh Munot and Tr. Nikhil Shah , all hardcore gamblers , thencaught me and took me to the casino room . Other tablers had already caught theirspaces around the black jack and roulette tables . We quickly got some tokens from thecashier and started iour luck at the tables . After an initial run of bad luck at theblack ack tables weot attracted to the roulette tables where it seemed some tablerstryngj, ghad taken in huge winnings . We tried our luck too and soon we hit a lucky streak andwere able to predict the numbers with some sort of sixth sense . With 1 : 35 odds wecleaned out the dealer and it was as thrill to start the night on a winning note . Attracted by the music which was suddenly higher in volume and catcalls from outside wehurried outside to see a shapely young Russian dressed in quite a naughty outfit doing asort of a flamenco and salsa combination and dancing slowly and sensually to themusic . After the first sequence the tempo quickened a little and another dancer cameand howed uimoves using jchai Nhdss someamazng ust a r as aprop .ow te crowwaswarming up and she was throwing her cowboy hat at the guests and whoever caught itthen had the lady doing some moves around him . By the time the first Russian cameagain for a performance, the crowd was in full element and then the wildest of all ourtablers , everyones favorite dancer , Tr. Abhijit Bora wanting to show off some moves ofhis own . He went up to the dancer , twirled her around taking her totally by surprise .After this, she too got into the act , caught Abhijit , pushed him onto a chair, gave him alap dance straight out of the Vegas nightclubs , with everyone looking on openmouthed . Both of them proceeded to then do some moves together, bordering on theerotic and sensual at the same time, and it was so synchronized it seemed as if they hadbeen practicing the entire day for it . Cheers to Abhijits wife , Pooja for be ng such agood sport and letting Abhijit have some fun moments which I am sure he will remember for a long long time .
It seemed that the hosts had not left anything out and after the performances there was a dazzling fireworks display . After the fireworks , it was already past midnightand some of the early birds proceeded for dinner catered by Pizzeria with live pasta ,risotto and made to order Pizzas . The rest made circles for playing cards some on thetables in the garden and the rest in the various rooms on mattresses . The ladies wereseen playing with smaller stakes while the guys grouped together from small to mindboggling stakes . While most of the tablers played for the next two hours including meand then left after having a late dinner, the next day I was surprised to learn that there were some die hard players who continued playing till 7.30 in the morning . The baralso stayed open till almost six in the morning till the last bottle of Black Label wasconsumed . A few days later I was again reminded of the event when Pune Times featured it with awhole write up and lot of photos from the party . I am sure Tr. Abhijit must havethanked his lucky stars that the papers did not insert any photos of him in acompromising position. Along with 17 tabling couples from our table and more than 25tabling couples from other tables and other personal invitees, there were more than 100 people who attended the party . It was a great start to the festival of Diwaliand New Year and a fantastic effort by the hosts and their better halves .

Taaren Zameen Par
Painting competition organized by PRRT105
At
Jeevanjyot School Pune on 14th Nov 2008

As per national initiative to hold painting competition for differently abled children on 14th November 2008 to mark the children’s day, our table started the thought process to conduct same at Jeevanjyot school with whom we had already conducted Diwali party. Aamir khan had consented to grant logo of Taaren Zameen Par as logo and will be involved in this event conducted by Round Table India. Tr Jignesh confirmed that the school is open for it as it would be a nice experience for children who are aged between 6 till 45. Tr Janak (Globalware) whole heartedly supported the cause by sponsoring an amount toward this event of Rs 3000 for snacks, prizes, roses, certificates and banners. With help of support from National (esp Tr Rajesh YR), we organized the stationary. The venue was school itself. We had invited Mr Kulkarni from SNDT Arts College as judge and Mr Ranjeet Shirole a renowned business personality and MNS secretary of Pune city as chief guest.

With this preparation, we arrived at the school and were surprised by the enthusiasm from students to paint the pictures. Due to difficulty of actually drawing the pictures, the event was adapted to painting the pictures. In all sixty students in two categories; vocational school and school were made based on age. They were divided into two groups as the situation demanded us to be all inclusive. We put the banners at right places and teachers asked students to start the painting. The Tablers, ladies, twinklers present in large numbers were monitoring the progress and helping them. The eyes of participants were lit up and they were really enjoying the creativity involved. School staff and parents were also involved in helping the participants,. Those were the magical moments which we will treasure all our lives.

After 40 mins of time, we collected all the paintings and then handed them over to Kulkarni sir for judgement. He had very tough time ranking them as everyone had made a great effort, But owing to his professional self he ranked the winners as follows.

School Group Vocational Group

Group1 Group 2 Group 1 Group 2
1 Bela Shinde Akash Marne Kanchan Thakar Sayali Agavane
2 Gaurav Dhole Amruta Patil Vinod Ubhe Sujata Inamdar
3 Vipul Khambe Rafiq Sheikh Smita Kulkarni Shital Karanje

The school introduced the guests and presented them with some art work done by students. The participants were invited to collect certificates individually. They were really happy and proud of their achievements. Tr Shantanu, Chirag, Mr Ranjeet and Kulkarni sir took this responsibility of handing over the certificates. Chief Guest Mr Ranjit then handed over the prizes for winners. Every one was winner including our tables, school staff that had this once in a life time chance to witness this event. Later snacks were distributed and enjoyed by children.

Then Ranjit spoke explaining importance of this event. School teachers express vote of thanks. Indeed it was really enjoyable moment as every kid had a beaming smile which was the most proud achievement ever done by our table , most of tablers wont disagree… Taarens of his zameens were twinkling as bright…….

According to most, it was the most complete moment in our tabling history…….

Franklin Covey – Session on Leadership HRD Program Jointly Organized by Ahmedabad Round Table # 40 and CII Yi

Franklin Covey – Session on Leadership
HRD Program Jointly Organized by Ahmedabad Round Table # 40 and CII Yi

Leaderships have great ideas and more importantly they implement it too. Our Area III Chairman and ART 40’s wonder boy Tr. Vineet Parikh was toying with an idea of building a bridge between CII Yi and Round Table. The thought behind it being lots of common synergies – both belong to Youngistan Families, both have common organization structure, both work for common objectives like social responsibility, member’s self development and fellowship. And hence when this opportunity came on a platter, we seized it. It is rightly said : “Great leaders institutionalize”.
Why the program?
Apart from HRD being one of the facets of tabling which a chairman has to give justice to, it was the urge to wake up the leader within each one of us in these challenging times of economic turbulence which took the priority. We all know we are in changed times, Peter Ducker once said, “One cannot manage change, one can only be ahead of it”. More than ever today the need in our organizations is for not just management, and not even effective leadership, but great leadership.
Who were the trainers?
Franklin Covey is considered to be one of the world's largest training companies with a presence in 134 countries. They provide training and consulting services to more than 90 of the Fortune 100 companies, and to more than three fourth of the Fortune 500 companies, as well as thousands of mid-sized and smaller companies. Formed in 1997 through a merger of the Franklin Quest and the Covey Leadership Centre, the company had its foundations in the work of Dr. Stephen R. Covey, author of global bestseller "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People", and Mr. Hyrum Smith, author of "The 10 Natural Laws of Successful Time and Life Management".
Franklin Covey's powerful new leadership development process builds capabilities in leaders and potential leaders - giving them the mindset and skills to provide vision, build trust, align systems, increase customer loyalty, create a culture of achievement, and inspire and engage their teams in the pursuit of sustainable, worthwhile results. And to showcase these traits, it was none other than Chairman and CEO of Franklin Covey India – Mr. Lavleen Raheja.
What was the learning from the program?
The program was an overview (three hours session) on leadership development starting with
- an overview on being a highly effective and successful person,
- building goals and defining team’s purpose
- followed by a sensational video of a 18 member team successfully climbing Mount Everest whose team leader is visually challenged showing famiexemplary skills of trust, motivation, teamwork, proactive, execution and determination to achieve the desired goals.
- followed by a high tea break
- Than was the all time favorites of all Gujjus, - Money Making Model, a video by Management Guru Mr. Ram Charan defining 5 key aspects of Money Making Model i.e. Cash Flows, Margins, Velocity, Growth and Customer Satisfaction
- Last but the most touching video was on Gramin Bank – Mohommad Yunus (Nobel Prize Winner) and his philosophy of getting on to work on eradication of poverty rather than class room teaching on eradication of poverty. The movement of micro finance has changed lives of 5 billion people across this globe and has compelled biggest leaders of this world to accept that all human beings have equal right and willingness to living and if the purpose is well defined even an illiterate and poor can be a leader within himself and earn his bread with self respect.
Who all attended?
Tablers from ART – 40 and AFRT - 199 and members from CII Yi were of obvious presence. It was good to see the interest amongst tablers sponsoring their family members and office executives in big numbers. The surprise pack was participation from Baroda Young Turks Table # 201 when Chairman Yogesh Nimkar walked in just 5 minutes before the start of the program with his team of 4 tablers to gain out of the program. Our 41ers group also were no less, 41ers Club # 105 was lead by their Chairman Sq. Leg. Niketan Sanghavi alongwith his 4 members from the club. ICICI Bank was kind enough to grant us a part sponsorship for the program and this was possible due to efforts from ART – 40. ICICI Bank team members also attended program in good numbers.
Vote of Thanks
GLMF Tr. Manish Bhanushali who happens to be our super hero of ART – 40, NVP Elect of RTI and also one of key national trainers in HRD Circuits of RTI was on the podium giving vote of thanks to trainer, sponsors, hotel staff and participants at large. Lastly we also stole some quick moments with Mr. Lavleen Raheja CEO, Franklin Covey India on possibilities of a tie up with RTI on national level for conducting HRD programs which got positive affirmations from his side. Cheers to Round Table India.
On conclusion, I read two quotes on Excellence, which I see of relevance here:

“Excellence can be obtained if you:
……. Care more
than others think is wise;
……. Risk more
than others think is safe;
……. Dream more
than others think is practical;
…….expect more
than others think is possible.”

“We are what we repeatedly do.
Excellence, then, is
not an act, but a habit.”

TAARE ZAMEEN PAR

14th Nov. 2008 – Children’s Day
Why don’t we have Children’s Day everyday? If this girl (in the picture above), with all her physical & mental challenges, can come all the way from her home to Blind People’s Association – Ahmedabad to participate in a Drawing and Painting Competition (please note its “competition”) than what we do in everyday life with all the physical and mental abilities and resources at our disposal for these children is a drop in a ocean.
Yes Friends, it was Children’s Day and we at Ahmedabad Round Table 40 & Ahmedabad Ladies Circle 64 on a national call organized Drawing & Painting Competition for differently abled Children at Blind People’s Association – Ahmedabad not knowing how far this event is going to touch our lives, until we felt it!!!!!!
Three schools, ( I feel these are not schools they are institutions by themselves) – Blind People’s Association, Uthan and Polio Foundation with their 80 odd kids participated with enthusiasm and with spirit of winning. Each kid, when we were monitoring them drawing, was so excited that they would draw, erase, redraw, color, shade and still feel it’s yet not the best what they can do. The judges comments were comparing these works of art with modern art which can put some of the best artists quizzical.
What is sense of achievement/success for all of us, Money? Name? Fame? And we run in this materialistic world “blindly” everyday. I was compelled to ask myself are we not challenged? A little girl, accepting just a certificate of participation, not a prize winner, stood holding her certificate as tall as she can with all smile on her face ready to get a photo click with judges. Now that’s success …… FEELING HAPPY for what one has created.
There was drawing, there was snacks, media covered it, seniors applauded, parents of participants thanked and somewhere we felt its was fun, then someone remarked no it were emotions then somebody realized there was motivation too, ofcourse there was competition also but all in all I felt it was MAGIC OF LOVE which was free flowing.
Many thanks to Round Table India and Ladies Circle India for making us meet the REAL HAPINESS OF LIFE …… TAARE ZAMEEN PAR !!!!

SpOHI
Special Olympics for Hearing Impaired children

a sustaining project since 1977 by BOMBAY ROUND TABLE 19

Saturday 10th January 2009
at University Sports Pavilion Grounds & Stadium, Marine Lines, Mumbai 400020

There are more than a million Hearing Impaired people in India. Of these, more than 30,000 are in the western region. For most, their debility is irreversible. They must confront this mischance of fate for as long as they live, confined to a destiny of neglect because their plight is not exactly front page or page 3 news. Yet these are the very people who with minimum sustenance can contribute to society quickly and efficiently.

Bombay Round Table 19 is a member of the Association of Round Tables of India, a zero-profit, zero-overhead, non-political and non-sectarian voluntary association of young like-minded people from diverse professions, businesses and vocations, serving the community through fellowship.

The motto of Round Table is “Adopt, Adapt, Improve” and amongst its Aims and Objects is to develop fellowship of young men through the medium of their business and professional occupations and community service activities and to develop active and responsible citizenship by cultivating the highest ideals in business, professional and civic traditions.

Bombay Round Table 19 ("BRT 19"), on its own as also in collaboration with other agencies, has prompted several initiatives towards our goal and mission for the assimilation of the hearing impaired into the mainstream of our society and empower these special children. The ‘SpOHI’ – sports meet for hearing impaired children conducted annually since the year 1977 has been the most successful and rewarding of our endeavors.

The outstation participants typically come in early in the morning on the Friday before the actual sports meet on Saturday, and from that time on, they are our joyful responsibility, till they leave – the last ones in the late evening on the Sunday after the sports meet, and during this entire time, they are fully taken care of, including food, stay, entertainment (movies and magic show), a little sight-seeing (time permitting) and of course, the high-light – the sports meet itself on Saturday.

How did SpOHI happen?
The 1st sports meet was organised for the entire handicapped community. It was then that BRT 19 felt that focusing on one particular section of the community would result in more efficient management and would make more of a difference. After exhaustive discussion, studies and debate, BRT 19 concluded that the hearing impaired needed immediate support and awareness.

How have the hearing impaired gained from SpOHI?
SpOHI has provided a platform to prove that what is often perceived as “an impairment” need not come in the way of being contributing and capable citizens, and the fierce determination demanding to be accepted as equals. SpOHI has also given them the opportunity to interact one to one with heads of states, bureaucrats, out-standing personalities within and outside their community. It has enabled them to be heard, loud and clear and to compete and aspire for a more meaningful future.

How has SpOHI influenced Round Tablers?
SpOHI was the gateway to realisation about the hearing impaired debility and the fierce competitiveness and determination with which the so-called impaired want to be, and are forming, an increasingly contributing part and parcel of our community.
How else has this realisation made a difference in the Table’s activities in this regard? Amongst others,

a) BRT 19 has donated a bus to a school for the hearing impaired in Mumbai to enable students to commute to school from distant suburbs of the city.
b) BRT 19, along with Round Table India and Table 19 of Netherlands, has refurbished a school for the hearing impaired in Ulhasnagar (a suburb of Mumbai). This school, from a dilapidated state, was transformed into a state-of-the-art school. Over 90 students have benefited from this project. This project entailed an expenditure of Rs.3.5 lakhs.
c) BRT 19 contributed, organized, set up and inaugurated, on Indian Independence Day (15th August) 2006, a new class-room, equipped with chairs, tables and teaching-aid at the hearing impaired section of LTMG School, Wadala. BRT 19 is now lending support to the students of LTMG School on continuous basis

How has SpOHI grown over the years?
The 1st sports meet had around 150 participants and over the years this event has grown, in size and dimension, manifold.

This SpOHI a bigger turn-out is expected that last SPOHI's record participation of over 800 heads, from about 40 schools, out of which about 600 were from outstation (all over India - Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Jharkhand).

The enthusiasm and competitive spirit on display are a mute testimony to their grit and a fierce determination to be accepted as equals.
It is now up to you to further fire their spirits. This is an opportunity to contribute to this unique event and help bringing joy and smiles to the faces of those who have the will and courage to be equal!

PRRT 105 Diwali Party at Jeevanjyot school for Differently abled Children

Diwali Party at Jeevanjyot school for Differently abled Children

Based on wonderful suggestion from Tr Jignesh and Tr Shantanu, we assembled at 1.15 pm on Sat 18th Oct. It was last school day before diwali vacations and school breaks off at 1.15
Tr Shantanu, Tr Gautam, Tr Chirag, Tr Janak, Tr Rajesh Kokane, Tr Rajesh Bharatiya, Tr Gaurang , Mrs Priti, Mrs Deepali, Twinklers Riya and Parth, did not expect that it could be an afternoon which will be treasured in the memory for long. Table had funded for buying the crackers and arranging for Diwali snacks for all 150 children.

The children welcomed us, shook hands with us and gave us smiles which we would remember for long. After brief speeches from principal and Tr Gautam introducing the table, the scene shifted to Crackers. Tr Shantanu and Tr Chirag led the occasion by ceremonially lighting up crackers (for a change). Then the school staff and student volunteers took over and had a gala time. The faces and awe in their eyes said it all. They really enjoyed and it was a satisfaction that set in to have resulted in such wonderful gestures and lightening up the burdens these children have to carry for no fault of theirs whole life.

Then the snacks were distributed and were enjoyed by all. They gifted us Diyas and faral made by them as a gesture of thanks. Really a great party to be in and was the most happening Diwali party we ever would have attended. Any those present won’t disagree with me. Thanks to Tr Jignesh who is aleady associated with the school independently and Tr Shantanu for such a great event for the table.

PRRT105 Flex HoardingAt petrol pump on busy roads

Pictures say it all. PRRT105 had an idea to use the strategic location of Tr Chirag’s Petrol Pump. Earlier everyone had seen similar board in front of Sassoon creating Table awareness and publicity. Tr Gautam had made design with RT India brochures and logos. Tr Saleel the publicity convener arranged for actual design, printing and execution. The Board mentions about RT organizational goals, aims and solicits help from all. It is currently stationed daily in the morning such that all the traffic coming from Univ till Agriculture College will be able to see that. This pump is the only Pump on that side of Univ road (Univ to Agri college side). Now with valid permissions idea is to create the base and elevate the same strategically.

Invitation From ART40 for HRD (Franklin Covey Session on Leadership)

Franklin Covey Session on Leadership
1430 hrs - 1730 hrs: Saturday, 15 November 2008: The Metropole Hotel, Ahmedabad

Dear Friends,

The CII - Young Indians has partnered with Franklin Covey Institute to organise learning sessions across its chapters in 2008-09. As part of our HRD initiatitve Young Indians (Yi) Ahmedabad chapter & Ahmedabad Round Table # 40 is organizing a learning session on Leadership. Mr Lavleen Rajeja CEO, Franklin Covey Institute would address the participants at the session which is being scheduled at 1430 hrs - 1730 hrs on 15 November 2008 at The Hotel Metropole, Subhash Bridge, Ahmedabad.

Leadership is very different from management. As has often been said, "You manage things; you lead people." More than ever today the need in our organizations is for not just management, and not even effective leadership, but great leadership. However you define leadership in your organization, the difference between effective managers and great leaders comes down to a few core characteristics.

Franklin Covey's powerful new leadership development process build these capabilities in leaders and potential leaders - giving them the mindset and skills to provide vision, build trust, align systems, increase customer loyalty, create a culture of achievement, and inspire and engage their teams in the pursuit of sustainable, worthwhile results. But a step change in effectiveness comes through a full learning process including application.

This two and half hour session would give participants an overview of Franklin Covey's new leadership development process which would help them to have the mindset which is necessary to unleash the talent and capability of their teams to achieve the organization's highest priorities.

I am writing to cordially invite you to attend the session along with your colleagues, friends & relatives. I request you to kindly confirm your presence via a return mail through the attached Reply Form.

Kindly note that the fees for the Session is Rs. 500 for all the CII-Yi & Round Table members & Rs. 600 for non-members, just to defray the administration cost. The session will start sharp at 1500 hrs.

Regards,

Prakash Udeshi

HRD REPORT ON ‘ THE URBAN ASHRAM’ PHRT182

HRD REPORT ON ‘ THE URBAN ASHRAM’ - An experience of “bonding” with our inner self.

Date: 16th October venue: Urban Ashram, Mukund nagar Pune
Attended by :

Tr. Vikas Agarwal and Shivani Agarwal
Tr. Dhawal Shah and Jinal Shah
Tr. Abhijit Bora and Pooja Bora
Tr. Amol Hatkar
Tr. Amol Kothari and Shubha Kothari
Tr. Lokesh Munot
Tr. Puneet Khinvsara and Raksha Khinsara
Tr. Abhay Kejriwal and Sunaina Kejriwal

We were 14 of us [including our better half] gathered at Urban Ashram in the evening of 16th oct, not really knowing what to expect but we all had an inkling that we wanted to de-stress ourselves and probably slow down our pace for some time from the hustle bustle of the mad modern world.

THE ENTRANCE OF URBAN ASHRAM-ONE PLACE I WANNA GO MORE OFTEN
Sheetal Sanghvi was studying the finer points of the NASDAQ in Chicago not too long ago. His 'other plans' were to complete his major in finance and proceed to earn currency 48 times heavier than ours, the way several others have. Call it the Swades effect, intuition or insanity, but Sheetal came back to India and started a space called the Urban Ashram in Pune.

THE MAN HIMSELF- SHEETAL SANGHVI
A B-school visit to a Wall Street stock broker changed his entire perspective of life. The want of space to express himself lead him to travel through America: exploring Mahhattan's opulent yoga studios, California's centres for Zen therapy and even hitched his way across the East Coast, meeting interesting people. He wanted to create something which would prod urbanites to share ideas, seek healing and ultimately enlighten themselves,' he adds .Thus began the transformation of his palatial ancestral home into a community hub. My space is where city dwellers can pause to think and express themselves,' he explains. The half-tutored financial analyst spent considerable time with sadhus in Rishikesh, artists in Pondicherry and many more pros: doctors, writers and cinephiles he chanced upon in his travels. The Ashram has already organized events like dance fests and art classes and is planning to be a platform for local photographers; apart from hosting movie nights and arranging trips to spiritual destinations. The so-called renouncer of an upwardly mobile life hasn't sacrificed his cool factor though. The ambience of the Urban Ashram too is stylish enough to create a buzz in the town's art circles. He even planns to set up an Irani style café.

RAKSHA PRESENTING A BOUQUET TO SHEETAL

So there we were with Sheetal sanghvi who welcomed us at the ashram and we had a brief tour of the ashram, right from the entrance to the garden which was made in zen style with beautiful pathway and stones and statue of Ganesha. Then we had a look at the studio which was designed keeping the minutest details like awesome acoustics which was aptly displayed to us by sheetal with a bowl made of 5metals [panchdhatu]namely : copper, gold lead, sliver and iron and when he rang that, there was a beautiful sound of vibrations and we could hear the vibrations for a long time because of the immensely neat acoustic design of the room. Also the room was designed in such a way that it gave a very positive vibe and you felt very peaceful and serene.

There was another room which had immensely beautiful canvas paintings on display which we all were delighted to see.

BREATHTAKING CANVAS PAINTINGS

We were also fortunate to see one of the power yoga session at work, well we got a first hand view of how vigorous and powerful it was, well just seeing the students performing power yoga I felt I lost few caloriesJ there are also lots of other sessions like pranayam session and fusion yoga.

ONE OF THE YOGA SESSION

All of us then gathered and saw a brief preview of the movie SECRET and also one of the chapter, the movie talks about POSITIVE THINKING. The Secret is a feature length movie presentation which reveals The Great Secret of the universe. It has been passed throughout the ages, traveling through centuries... This is The Secret to everything - the secret to unlimited joy, health, money, relationships, love, youth: everything you have ever wanted. All the resources you will ever need to understand and live The Secret. The world's leading scientists, authors, and philosophers will reveal The Secret that utterly transformed the lives of every person who ever knew it... Plato, Newton, Carnegie, Beethoven, Shakespeare, Einstein. After the brief preview we had a brief discussion about the movie and other things in general about life and our journey in life.
ALL OF US IN A GROUP DISCUSSION
Sheetal also showed us Vipassana meditation, in which one has to watch oneself inhale and exhales ones breath, which we all did in a group for some time. And I am glad to inform you that sheetal is one of the contender for the MTV youth icon.

And that ended our HRD, well at the end of it , I can say in true tabling style that we as an individual got an experience of “bonding” with our inner self.

And I am glad to inform you that sheetal is one of the contender for the MTV youth icon this year.

“Life is a balance between rest and movement.”

Joint Project with Mr. Satrughan Sinha in Bihar by Round Table

Round Table is a non-political and non-sectarian organization offering young men between the ages of 18 and 40 the opportunity for serving their communities by encouraging high ethical standards in commercial life; by developing the acquaintance of men in all vocations and thereby a fuller understanding; and by stimulating individual interest in everything affecting public welfare. The local club termed as “Round Table” or simply “Table” is the most important unit in the movement. The individual members of each Table decide how they will serve their community. What the Table does depends on the problems and challenges, which its community presents. These range from providing civic amenities, vocational training, conducting blood donation drives and health camps, performing corrective surgery, sponsoring underprivileged children in educational institutions and homes, providing shelters for the needy and helping out during times of natural calamities and tragedies like floods etc. The Table alone determines the scope and limit of its activities. There is no pattern limiting this scope. It is said that the privileges of life are accompanied by equal obligations and it is a Round Table belief that they require effort and service in return. The community service performed by Round Tables is an instrument, which benefits both parties to the contract. Those who are helped are given an intimate friendly assistance. Those who help have the opportunity to give a return for the privileges they enjoy, not the least of which is their membership of Round Table.

A proud achievement of Round Table India is that, it is the highest per capita contributor towards projects at Rs. 50,000-00 per annum, possibly the highest amongst all service organization in India.

Round Tables and Ladies Circle of Ahmedabad in association with Indian Heart Foundation and Research Organization take the pleasure of inviting you to the “Public Appeal for Bihar Flood Relief” in the gracious presence of renowned Actor, MP and Social Activist Shri Shatrughan Sinha.
We are all aware of the devastating flood in Bihar and the havoc it caused to the residents. Round Table has been instrumental in Bihar relief work. Tablers and Circlers from all over the country have managed to send medicines worth Rs. 100 Lacs, food items worth Rs. 200 Lacs, tons of clothes and other relifef material. There is need for more support.
Shri Shatrughan Sinha has been kind enough to visit various cities of Gujarat in association with Round Table India to gather support for the flood victims.

We request you to contribute a few moments from your valuable time and support the flood victims of Bihar by remaining present:

88888 Initiative by PRR105

About 88888 initiative
This was an initiative taken by our table to promote the awareness about Global warming and fight against it by joining 88888 campaigns.

What is 88888?
We urged everyone to switch off lights for 8 minutes at 8 PM on 8th august 2008. We informed that Global warming is a real threat and all must act now. By this initiative we aimed following:
Building Awareness
Taking Individual responsibility for our surroundings
To be part of the solution
A feeling of togetherness amongst people when they all take a stand to arrest a common threat.

Impact of Global warming is far reaching and it is needed by all the acknowledge same. This effort was towards that

What our table did?

Our table printed the handouts in large numbers (10000). We circulated these pamphlets all round Pune at key places example: bills at Vaishali were accompanied by this, club solaris, Deccan, petrol pumps, societies in Kothrud and Aundh, Sopanbaug , tata sky customers etc...

Highlight of Publicity achieved:
A curtain raiser of this event was published on page 3 in Punes Newsline of Indian express of 6th August. The news also features Round table India achievements and will help us reach our cause to more people.

Actual Event
On that day, our tablers and ladies circulated the pamphlets from 7 Pm till 7 30 at key locations and we met after that at Autumn Service apartments and observed the lights out. During light out we resolved together to follow simple rules which can help fight global warming like putting off lights, not keeping devices in standby mode, using cycles, walking for short distances etc.

We also solicited support to our schools through publicity done.

Publicity achieved:
A curtain raiser of the 88888 event was published on page 3 in Punes Newsline of Indian express of 6th August. The news also features Round table India achievements and it will help us reach our cause to more people.
More than 10000 pamphlets were distributed all around pune depicting our cause and schools etc. We had encouraging response and calls resulting from that exercise

Fellowship angle to the event
This was a good fun as everyone had a cause. We meet once or twice to plan to event. Print and circulate the pamphlets we distributed in Pune. By means of this we urged all to put off lights at 8 pm on 8th Aug 2008 for 8 minutes as awareness to fight against global warming. Two days all tablers took responsibility to distribute the pamphlets publicizing event and table activities. It was fun, with updates from all over Pune about score: the number of pamphlets distributed. Finally we all met that day at Chirag’s petrol pump on University Road. There we distributed to all. A great bonding…
After the event, few tablers had a late coffee session at Sanjay’s Place to discuss all.

The entire Area Board Team along with their families assembled in Pune in the Morning of 20September Saturday. We quickly got fresh and moved on to Amby Valley Sahara city near Lonavala. It was an out of country experience. The place was beautiful, weather was amazing, raining on and off and the company was the best every possible Tablers!!!

We all took our shots, the ladies tried their swings. Few of us were confused which game we were actually playing….cricket, tennis. We returned back to Pune in the evening and went to the a Social hosted by Pune RT15 which was at a lounge bar called “The Den”. It was a exciting place and we had some more fun, music, mischief and fellowship. The Chairman Tr. Sunil Punjabi conducted a crisp meeting.

Independence Day Celebration BRT2

Independence Day Celebration

As our country celebrated it 60th Independence Day, we witnessed the next generation talk of the greatness of the occasion. The Twinklers dressed in the tri-colours of the Indian flag narrated the history of Indian Independence and the meaning behind the Indian Flag. They put up a good show and stole the attention for the evening.

Tr Ankit and Cr. Mona Parekh hosted the dinner get-together on 14th August, '08 at their residence at Shivaji Park . The highlight for dinner was some scrumptious Gujrathi Cuisine organized by our host. We had the presence of Sq. Legs, tablers from RT 6, RT 19, RT 198 and past circlers among the circle of BRT 2 that evening.

It was great to see everyone sporting the tricolour theme. The evening seemed to flow from one good thing into another. Everyone was in high spirits. Right after dinner which went on till midnight, our tablers got into the mood of kick-starting the season of Diwali with games of Taash. The crowd enjoyed every bit of their evening.
