Why don’t we have Children’s Day everyday? If this girl (in the picture above), with all her physical & mental challenges, can come all the way from her home to Blind People’s Association – Ahmedabad to participate in a Drawing and Painting Competition (please note its “competition”) than what we do in everyday life with all the physical and mental abilities and resources at our disposal for these children is a drop in a ocean.
Yes Friends, it was Children’s Day and we at Ahmedabad Round Table 40 & Ahmedabad Ladies Circle 64 on a national call organized Drawing & Painting Competition for differently abled Children at Blind People’s Association – Ahmedabad not knowing how far this event is going to touch our lives, until we felt it!!!!!!
Three schools, ( I feel these are not schools they are institutions by themselves) – Blind People’s Association, Uthan and Polio Foundation with their 80 odd kids participated with enthusiasm and with spirit of winning. Each kid, when we were monitoring them drawing, was so excited that they would draw, erase, redraw, color, shade and still feel it’s yet not the best what they can do. The judges comments were comparing these works of art with modern art which can put some of the best artists quizzical.
What is sense of achievement/success for all of us, Money? Name? Fame? And we run in this materialistic world “blindly” everyday. I was compelled to ask myself are we not challenged? A little girl, accepting just a certificate of participation, not a prize winner, stood holding her certificate as tall as she can with all smile on her face ready to get a photo click with judges. Now that’s success …… FEELING HAPPY for what one has created.
There was drawing, there was snacks, media covered it, seniors applauded, parents of participants thanked and somewhere we felt its was fun, then someone remarked no it were emotions then somebody realized there was motivation too, ofcourse there was competition also but all in all I felt it was MAGIC OF LOVE which was free flowing.
